What is Underliner?

Underliner is an eyeliner technique that falls slightly into the graphic eyeliner category. Dramatic and bold – but a little easier to create – part of the fun of underliner is that it can be a little messy and “undone” whilst still looking bold and dramatic.

Underliner eyeliner can either be grungy and smudgy along the lower lash line, crisp and clean for a modern look, or in a winged shape for a more graphic effect.

How to Apply Underliner

Underliner is an eyeliner technique that is relatively easy to apply.

Step 1: Apply a thick line of eyeliner along the lower lashline, following the natural shape of your eye.

Step 2: To intensify the look apply eyeliner along the lower waterline

Step 3: Smudge out the eyeliner to create a grungier eyeliner look

Step 4: Keep the upper lashline free of eyeliner or apply a very thin line with liquid eyeliner.

Step 5: Finish the look with 1-2 coats of mascara on both the top and bottom lashes.
